Ulster County man arrested for throwing dog against wall

New York State soldiers announced the arrest of a Shawangunk man and charged him with the felony of aggravated animal cruelty.

Late on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at approximately 11:48 p.m., New York State soldiers responded to a call about a family dispute on Lakewood Road. When the soldiers arrived at the scene they observed the person who called in the report outside the residence holding a small dog and when they approached to investigate they found the small dog was injured. .

Upon investigation, soldiers allege that a 30-year-old man, Anthony Gonzalez, from the town of Shawangunk grabbed the dog and threw it against the wall. According to the press release, the soldiers say Gonzalez got angry with the 7-year-old Maltese dog because the dog was barking and biting his hand.

After being thrown against the wall, the small dog was seen bleeding from the mouth and because of this, the soldiers asked the owner to take the dog to the Sullivan County Emergency Veterinary Hospital. After the dog was examined by the on-call vet, soldiers were told that the dog had been given a minor bus as a result of the incident and that he should make a full recovery.

The soldiers arrested Gonzalez and charged him with the felony of aggravated animal cruelty. He was transported and arraigned in Gardiner City Court where he received an appearance ticket to answer the charges on December 20, 2021 at 6 p.m. Gonzalaz has also received a protection order which will now prevent him from contacting the victim.
