Groups included in the 2022 National Dog Show

There are seven groups included in the national dog show: Terrier, Toy, Work, Jock, Dog, Breedingand Not athletic.

Most terriers, like the Cairn terrier and the Scottish Terrier, were bred to hunt vermin. If you have one of these dogs, you know this is true, as they often pick on cats and squirrels and love to pounce in the dirt. Small dogs, like the Pug and the Pomeranian, have no other job than to be our adorable little companions. Working dogs, like the German shepherd and the Great Pyreneesare highly intelligent and perform specific tasks for their humans.

Sporting dogs, like the Golden retriever and the german wirehaired pointer, are bred to help their human hunt. This can range from game scoring to game recovery. Also hunting dogs, hunting dogs have their own pack due to their history of running alongside a human as they hunt their prey with their nose or eyes. Sheepdogs are also technically working dogs, but for the specific purpose of herding livestock. The non-sporting group includes all breeds that do not fit into any of the previous groups. This group contains all of a Chow chow has a french bulldog.
