With about a fortnight to go before the civic body election in the nation’s capital, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced on Thursday that it would build “advanced” gaushalas if it comes to power in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

“Stray animals are a big problem in Delhi. ‘Gau mata’ (cow) is seen eating garbage in all the landfills. Gau mata’s proper place is in the gaushalas (cow sheds), where they receive proper feed,” AAP chief spokesman Saurabh Bharadwaj told a press conference.

“Delhi government, for all stray animals especially cows to take care of them, advanced gaushalas will be made. After coming to power in the municipal corporation, AAP will manufacture these gaushalas, where they will be kept and fed,” he added.

Holding two puppies in his hands, the AAP’s chief spokesperson told the press conference that if they come to power in the MCD, they will wage a “Being Indian, Adopt Indian” campaign, to promote the adoption of Indian dog breeds.

“You also deal with foreign breed dogs, we are not against it, but you also deal with Indian breed dogs,” he said.

Earlier this month, announcing the party’s 10 guarantees to citizens ahead of the election, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal assured citizens of relief from stray animals including ‘cows, dogs and monkeys “.

Voting for the 250 municipal wards will take place on December 4 and counting will take place on December 7.
